Date: 1 Feb 2012 Comments:Comments OffThere have been many cases of alcohol and drug addiction in the world. Experts say that more and more people are now into using drugs and different forms of alcohol. It is even reported that the reasons why people are now becoming addicts are now getting severe. Some people get into certain drugs and alcohol because of peer pressure. Teenagers sometimes do not have that much logical thinking yet that whenever they are persuaded to take certain drugs, they could just not say no. Some people on the other hand use these drugs to escape problems and feelings of depression; they say that when they feel high, they do not feel anything anymore, thus making them forget about their current situation. There have been a lot of methods already being used by experts to combat these problems, some have used the traditional 12 step rehab programs while others have said that the non 12 step rehab programs are better. The success rates of each have been debated and each has presented their own pros and cons.
For the 12 step process, the drug or alcohol dependent is firstly asked to admit that he or she is powerless over these harmful substances. It makes them believe that they will be forever under their spell so they just have to move away from these kinds of drugs. These was said to be successful to some but a majority has strongly negated its success. The long-term non 12 step rehabs on the other hand are said to be more effective. It is a process wherein the users are told that they are better than the drug and that they can overcome it so that eventually they do not have to depend on it anymore. This is said to be more effective for people because it makes them empowered.
